Keep Philadelphia Beautiful and the Philadelphia School District

Science Leadership Academy’s Beeber Campus

Every day, students throughout Philadelphia work with their school communities to spearhead environmental action. They start green teams, organize cleanups, plant gardens, and talk to their neighbors and friends about what they can do in their daily lives to make our city greener. We want to celebrate one such group of students here.

In the spring of 2015, Keep Philadelphia Beautiful, a local nonprofit dedicated to environmental stewardship and civic engagement, worked with a class of passionate high school students from the Science Leadership Academy’s Beeber campus in Wynnefield. After several brainstorming and planning sessions, the class organized and implemented a school-wide anti-litter PSA campaign. They ended the semester by not only assessing the effectiveness of their campaign, but brainstorming means of continuing and enhancing the campaign during the next academic year.
