Weavers Way Plastic Reduction Task Force Community Meeting

February 7, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

- Free

The Weavers Way Plastic Reductions Task Force welcomes you to attend an important, open community meeting concerning the proliferation of disposable plastic and its negative impact on our lives.

Growing inundations of plastic are seriously harming vast natural areas. Incineration of plastic has become a major source of air, soil and water pollution. And, the recycling process is too often grossly inefficient, burdening communities globally. WWPRTF seeks to address this issue as it pertains to our Co-op, and to encourage internal practices in alignment with a high standard of environmental responsibility. Our goal is to identify and promote viable alternatives to single-use materials and to mobilize community support for more sustainable systems.

As Co-op members, we are uncommonly well positioned to raise our voices collectively and take collective action! Specific topics to be addressed include:

  • Incentivized bulk shopping program development
  • Alternatives to pallet wrap
  • Refillable seltzer water
  • Zero Waste in the Prepared Foods department

Come out to hear and be heard on the serious issue of pervasive plastic. Learn more about the Task Force and its objectives. Provide feedback on its initiatives. Bring new ideas for inspiring positive change in the name of our Co-op and surrounding neighborhoods. Now is the time: RSVP HERE.

Light refreshments will be provided in keeping with our Zero Waste policy! Please bring your own food and beverage serviceware. OR, rent a set for $1. All proceeds will support the efforts of WWPRTF. For more info, please contact

Weavers Way is a consumer-owned cooperative grocery store founded in 1973, with three locations in, and near, Northwest Philadelphia. We operate two urban farms and feature products we’ve grown ourselves alongside many other locally sourced, sustainable, fairly traded, organic and nautrally nutritious foods, pet products, beauty aids, gifts and accessories.  We’re owned collectively by nearly 10,000 member-households, though you don’t have to be a member to shop in our stores — We are open and ready to welcome you seven days a week.
