The Philadelphia Canoe Club is organizing a clean up of the Schuylkill river with the Philadelphia Water Department.
They will be focusing our efforts near the Flat Rock Sluice house.
Knowing we all enjoy the convenience of the Schuylkill River, it is time to give back for just a couple hours. The Canoe Club is teaming up with the Philadelphia Water Department to remove large pockets of trash deposited along the Schuylkill River Trail. Primary focus is on the area around Lock 68 and Manayunk Canal Sluice House.
Time and date are Saturday October 19th from 9am-noon. Please anticipate arriving 30 minutes early to gather together and walk along the trail to the Sluice House.
The rain date is Nov. 2nd. The area becomes inaccessible with too much rain. This will be a land based cleanup. No boats necessary. The area is not large, but yet still densely packed with trash. Your help will be greatly appreciated!
The Water Department will be providing a long list of tools for this job, as well as all trash removal at the end. Look for that list along with items you will need to bring with you in upcoming emails and Facebook posts.
Afterwards, lunch will be provided back at the Club House.
You will need to sign a waver for insurance purposes to attend this clean up. One will be provided for you at the start of the day.
There are no bathrooms on site.
The Canoe club is working on possibly parking at the abandoned paper mill. If they are not granted permission, the group will park on Shawmount Avenue and walk the trail to the Sluice House and river bank.
Determination to make this a cleaner place!
